Several
Commercial Companies have tried to get the rights to Marmalade
Boy.
However,
Marmalade Boy will be a greater expenditure than a OAV series
or smaller TV series. So please have compassion for the companies
brave enough to attempt it. (^_^)
Often
times, TV series are sold for a large sum per episode. Marmalade
Boy has 76 episodes. In addition, the rights to the music is
generally sold separately. Marmalade Boy's music is very crucial
to the Kei-kun stories. Any company making the attempt to get
Marmalade Boy will need to take this extra expense into serious
consideration.
We
can only hope that, when it does go commercial, that the company
purchasing it will realize that shoujo anime is based on the
characters' feelings and relationships. IF those feelings are
not known, it effectively GUTS what shoujo anime is based on.
Please,
when voting for a shoujo anime to be purchased by a company that
you either know that the company has done an honest job with
the translations in the past, OR if it's an unknown company,
that you ask them how they intend to handle the series if they
get it.
Make
wise decisions when voting so that series, like Marmalade Boy,
are handled so that they will make money for the purchaser and
make you, as a fan, proud of what you've voted for. Voting for
shoujo just to see it out there could affectively put shoujo
in the category of "unmarketable" in the pros minds
again. But if handled right so that it's colored to its full
potential, it could help to move the shoujo genre ahead for anime
on the commercial end.
